Extra Innings offers individualized, year round professional baseball and softball instruction. Our staff uses a uniform step-by-step teaching system to encourage positive progress with all our students.

The Extra Innings staff features former and current professional players, college all-stars, and area college and high school coaches.

 

Tommie Winn – Extra Innings Head Baseball Instructor

The starting catcher for Western CT State University in 1997 & 1998 and finished with a career .368 batting average. In 1998 finished 2nd in batting average and 3rd in RBI’s for the Colonials. Tommie has been a full time coach and instructor since 2000, most notably for the St. Louis Cardinals AA affiliate New Haven Ravens. Since 2000, Tommie has instructed alongside former major leaguers Butch Hobson, Bill Madlock, Matt Merullo Dan Pasqua and current Boston Red Sox center fielder Coco Crisp. Tommie specializes in Pitching and Catching Instruction and does Hitting and Fielding instruction as well.

 
 

Ian Hogan – Extra Innings Baseball Instructor

Ian played for the All-Marine Corps baseball during the 2004-2005 season. They were a semi-pro team located at Camp Pendleton, CA and participated in the California Golden Baseball League. For the 2005-2006 season, Ian was the co-captain and infielder for Holyoke Community College finishing with a .370 batting average. Currently he plays for the Springfield Braves in Western Mass Tri-County baseball league. Ian specializes in hitting and fielding instruction and teaches and agility training program for Extra Innings.

 
 

Jeff McAvoy – Extra Innings Baseball Pitching Instructor

Jeff is currently a Major League scout for the Houston Astros. He began his career at Palmer High School. As a 3 time All-Western Mass performer in baseball he chose to attend Division I Western Carolina University. After a year of pitching at WCU, McAvoy transferred to the University of Mississippi. At Ole Miss he was a preseason All-America nominee in 1999 and 2000, two times Ole Miss Pitcher of the Year, team captain and ALL-SEC Selection. In 1998 and 1999 was a member of the Brewster Whitecaps of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. In May of 2000 McAvoy signed with the Montreal Expos and pitched 4 seasons in their minor league system, with stops at 4 different levels, A, A+, AA, and AAA. In 2003, McAvoy made his 1st appearance in a Major League Spring Training camp. His pitching career came to a close due to a shoulder injury. McAvoy is now employed full-time by the Houston Astros as a Major League Scout, his responsibilities include, reporting on hundreds of players at the AA, AAA and Major League levels, as well as preparing prospect lists an suggesting components in potential deals for the July 31st MLB trade deadline and the December Rule V Draft. Jeff has been instructing since 1998.

 
 

Nick Gorneault – Hitting Instructor

Debuted with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on June 30, 2007. Played most of the 2007 and all of 2006 and 2005 with the Salt Lake Bees, the Triple A affiliate of the Angels where in 2007 he hit .261 with 19 HRs and 59 RBI, in 2006 hit .283 with 15 HRs and 78 RBI and in 2005 led the Pacific Coast League with 108 RBI, led his team with 26 HRs, ranked second in the league with 106 runs scored and finished third in triples (11) and extra base hits (63, tied). Was named PCL Player of the Week Aug. 29 – Sept. 4 (.419, 13/31, 12 R, 4 HR and 14 RBI). In 2004, with Arkansas, ranked among Texas League leaders in runs scored (91, 1st), home runs, (21, T 3rd) and extra base hits (53, 3rd) and also let the Travelers in total bases (238), doubles (28, tied) and RBI (81). Honors included: Texas League Post Season All-Star Team, Texas League Player of the Week (April 19-25) and Texas League All-Star Game Selection. Played in six games with Triple A Salt Lake and posted six hits with one HR and five RBI. In 2003, ranked fifth among batting average leaders (.321) and drove in a team leading 72 RBI in 97 games with Rancho Cucamonga. Also ranked fourth in the league in doubles (36) and third in slugging percentage (.540) and , in the minor league rankings, tied for fourth in doubles (42 overall in 2003), sixth in extra-base hits (64) and 12th in total bases (260). Named Angels Organization Player of the Month for May, California League Player of the Week (July 21-27) and as a California League All-Star Game Selection. Promoted to Double A Arkansas Aug. 1st and homered in first game with the Travelers. In 29 games, batted .345 (38/110) with 2 HRs and 19 RBI. Hit safely in 23 of 29 games with Arkansas. Named Texas League Player of the Week, Aug. 4-10. In 2002, led Cedar Rapids with a.289 batting average. In 2001, opened professional career with rookie level Provo who posted a 52-25 mark and reached the Pioneer League Championship. Hit .315 (53/168) with 6 HRs and 30 RBI. Nick attended Cathedral HS (Springfield, MA) where he starred in baseball and basketball. Set school records of 10 HRs, 43 RBI and .480 average as a senior. Selected first-team All-Western Mass in 1997. Member of the Western Mass Championship basketball team. Played collegiate baseball at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA) and named team captain as senior.

 
 

Larry Nault – Extra Innings Softball Instructor

Larry is a softball instructor with 20+ years of coaching experience. He is the pitching coach and Assistant Head Coach at Bay Path College in Longmeadow, MA. He has coached at Hampshire Regional and Northampton High Schools and currently works with the Midway Express (18U) and Bay State Games – West softball teams. These teams have been very successful including winning the summer league and tournament championships in addition to a Gold and two Bronze medals at the Bay State Games. Larry specializes in pitching instruction and gives catching, hitting and fielding instruction as well. Many of his former players and students have reached all – region status and have played at the collegiate level.

 
 

Lacy Gillotti – Softball Instructor/Personal Trainer

Played varsity softball at Fitchburg State 2002-2005, was captain in 2004 and 2005. Lacy was the Strength and Conditioning coach for the NPF New England Riptide from 2004-2006. She was the Head Junior Varsity Softball Coach at Springfield College from September of 2005 through May of 2006. Lacy is currently the Assistant Head Coach at WNEC (Western New England College). She is AED certified and CPR trained. Lacy is a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
